The outline
7 chapters, and what each one is doing.
Nothing is held back here. Build it with CreateEbook or build it in a word processor — the structure is the useful part.
What you will have at the end
Describe the finished result in concrete terms, then show it. A reader who can picture the outcome finishes the book.
What you need first
Tools, accounts, time, and money — stated honestly, including the parts that cost something. Hiding this loses the reader at chapter four.
The first pass
Get the reader to a rough, working version as fast as possible. Momentum beats completeness in the opening third.
Doing it properly
Now go back through and do each step well. This is the longest chapter and the one worth the download.
The mistakes
The five ways this goes wrong, each with the symptom that shows up first. Written from having watched it happen, not from imagination.
Making it repeatable
Turn the one-off into a routine — a schedule, a template, a rule. The reader came for a result and leaves with a system.
Where to go next
Two or three honest recommendations, including things you do not sell. Costs nothing and buys the trust the next email depends on.
Why this shape works
Three reasons, plainly.
It answers a search query completely, which is the only reliable way to earn a link.
The 'what you need first' chapter filters out readers who would have churned, before they download.
Recommending things you do not sell is the cheapest credibility available.
Starting points
Three openings you can paste straight in.
Step one asks what your book should teach. Here is what a good answer looks like for this template — specific enough that the outline comes back usable.
- “How to start a paid newsletter from zero subscribers in thirty days”
- “How to run your first customer interview round, from recruiting to notes”
- “How to move a WordPress site to a static host without losing search traffic”
Other templates
Four more shapes.
